The Gander Disbander is designed for year round outdoor use. However, storing inside during the off season will extend it's life.
There is no 'on-off' switch as these are a source of failure on outdoor devices. When stored without sunlight the batteries will drain and the device will stop working. Once redeployed, 4-6 hours of bright sunlight is required to recharge the batteries and allow your Gander Disbander to work properly.
We recommend storing the device upside down as that will prevent the laser from operating until the battery drains. A GoreTex valve is incorporated in the design to prevent moisture build up. Storing in a dry location while upside down is recommended as the valve works best when right side up.
