Laser have an advantage over other light sources due to their concentrated beam, which maintains its brightness over a much greater distance than non-collated lights. This makes them perfect for lakes, ponds, and large flat areas, like sports fields and areas of golf courses.
LED's have an advantage on uneven surfaces due to the broader display of their beam. While this limits the effective distance, it allows for use in areas where it is difficult to position the laser beam due to geography.
